Our Members' Success Stories

I joined Asian Romance long before I moved down to Southern California from Portland, OR.  Although I already had many friends down here, I thought that joining a singles site would help expand my circle of contacts as well as my dating pool.  I have met many people through AR, some of which I am still good friends with to this day.  I have held several housewarming parties that I opened to whoever wanted to come; many of my guests have been AR members.

One day I was browsing through profiles and happened to run across one that really touched my heart.  The picture didn't do the guy much justice, but I could tell by his writings that he was sincere and that we held true to the same values.  I wrote him an e-mail and left my phone number, but I didn't hear from him.

Several months later, I was out on the most boring date I had ever been on in my whole life!  This guy was from another singles site, and he was so dull!  He had absolutely nothing interesting to say.  So I asked that guy to take me home as soon as dinner was done.

Before I had even opened my front door to go inside, my phone rang again.   When I picked up, the voice on the other end says, "Hi!  This is Ty from Asian Romance..." and I thought, oh man, another boring dude, another boring date...

So I spoke to him briefly, but declined to meet with him, as I was all "dated out" per se, and I was not really impressed by the conversation, although I did like how Ty was able to fluently switch back and forth from Vietnamese to English.  I told him I would call him back, but I really had no intentions to do so....

The next day I had forgotten all about speaking to him.  I was going through my call log and saw an unfamiliar number, so I called it back, and there was his voice again on the other end: "Um, hi.  Did someone call from this number yesterday?"  I asked.  "Yes. This is Ty.  'Pie-Ty' from Asian Romance.  We spoke last night...Um, hey, are you hungry?"
Oh boy.  My weakness--FOOD!  I love to eat!  So I accepted and he picked me up about an hour later.

As soon as he pulled into my driveway, I looked at him, and I knew he was THE ONE.  We got caught in traffic on our way to lunch, so we had lots of time to talk and get acquainted.  He was so funny--I don't remember ever laughing as much as I did that day.  When we sat down to eat, the first thing that comes out of his mouth was, "Hey, I know what you were wearing yesterday.  You had a red sweater on, white pants, and white platform shoes!"  And I was like, oh my gosh!  A stalker!  And then he continued with, "Yeah, and you were with some light-skinned guy last night at a Chinese Restaurant!"  He had all the details!  And then he explained that he was out having dinner with his aunt the previous night and was sitting next to me while I was out on the date with the boring guy!  He had front row seats!  He heard everything, and had recognized me from my picture on my AR profile.  What a coincidence!  But we truly believe that it was fate....

We had discussed why he hadn't called before.  After all, I believe my first attempt to reach him was about a year ago, while I was still a student in Portland.  He explained that he was in Hawaii at the time on business and just didn't think this internet dating stuff was for real, plus I wasn't even in the area...

There were so many commonalities between us--we both grew up dirt poor, were both homeless and on our own for some time in our lives, and despite that, still graduated from a university with the exact same degree!

Ty had a garter that he had caught at his cousins wedding.  It consisted of my two favorite colors, and of course traditionally signified he was next to tie the knot!  It was hanging from his rearview mirror, and we had a brief discussion about the the significance of that as well.

After lunch, Ty came to my place and he never left my side since...He asked me to marry him the next day, and I graciously accepted--we ran off two weeks later with several of my closest friends and got hitched.

We truly believe that we were a match made in heaven, and our family and friends don't dispute that...We're so truly blessed to have found eachother, thanks in part to AR.
