The Social Etiquette to Online Dating
Welcome to the wonderful world of online dating! If this is your first shot at it, it’s good to know that there are etiquette rules that apply, just as with anything you do. We’ve pulled together a to-the-point-what-am-I-doing guide to online dating. If you follow these simple steps, you will be sure to land the single of your dreams.
- When creating your profile, be honest. It’s been shown that most people lie about their educational level and/or how much money they make. If you even lie about little things like that, how can you plan on building a relationship based on trust and honesty? So be as honest as you can and it will help you find someone with similar interests and goals.
- Use a photo that is of you, not of your best friend. So you’re a little nervous, right? Everyone is the first time they do something. But this is your chance to shine and put your best foot forward. Use a photo of you white water rafting, or just showing your big, beautiful smile. It’s been shown that profiles with photos get twenty more times of a response then profiles without photos.
- When you first say hi to that single you have your eye on, be polite. You’ll find that when you log on, you’ll have a lot of people wanting to chat with you. So give each of the people you talk to time to answer. Remember, they are chatting with just as many singles as you are.
- Keep your conversations light and toward common interests. You’ve read their profile and found out that you both like playing golf, so talk about that. When you start on common ground, you will more likely find other areas of interest and keep the conversation rolling.
- Don’t be too forward when you talk to someone the first couple of times. If you don’t know how to word a question correctly, give them a warning ahead of time. If you’re not too sure about what you are asking or saying, pause for a moment and think about how you would feel if someone said or asked it of you.
- Give out passion points. When you hand out passion points to the single you have your eye on, it shows them you are interested in them, and helps them to keep track of who you are. Everyone likes a little passion every now and then!
- Most importantly, be yourself. No one likes a fake or a fraud. You want to find that right person, and when you do, they will like you for who you are. Flaws, perfections and all.
So make yourself a cup of tea and tune into the world of online dating. It’s an experience like no other, and if you play your cards right, you’re going to have the time of your life!
