A Manly Guide to Valentine’s Day

            Okay, so all women have heard the man’s gripe that “Valentine’s Day is just a commercial holiday! It’s so stupid!” Yes, we know, but that doesn’t stop us from wanting something special! This is the day you decide, are you going to break you’re date’s heart, or are you going to send her heart fluttering with anticipation?

            Most guys don’t know where to start on Valentine’s Day. Do you have to plan the whole entire day? No would be the answer to that question, unless you’re an over achiever. There are actually a lot of choices for Valentine’s Day; but the most sure fire way to get the romance stirring is a nice dinner. She’s been dropping hints about that new steak house that opened around the corner. Okay, so it cost about fifty dollars a head, but this is the day to drop that kind of cash. Be sure to make reservations well in advance. A nice dinner is most guy’s answer to Valentine’s Day, so be sure you put your bid in a few weeks in ahead of time.

When you go to pick her up for that special night, bring flowers. There are so many choices when it comes to flowers. Do you grab her favorite or, do you do the roses? Valentine’s Day typically calls for roses. It’s a formal flower, and is romantic as well. Give roses on special occasions such as this, and other occasions bring her mixed flowers. Also, go for the long stemmed roses. The ones that come in the box are the most impressive. However, any rose will actually do. You’re giving her flowers, she’s gonna dig it.

            Make sure the date is a formal and special occasion. Be sure the restaurant is dimly lit, but not to the point where you can’t see what you’re eating. Is that a potato, or is that a sliver of fat? That can be a scary situation for just about anyone. Dress nicely for the occasion. Pull out those slacks, a collared shirt and dust off those dress shoes. Make an impression!

            Hold her hand, or have her hold on to the crook of your arm. It makes her feel like a lady. Be sure to open those doors. The car doors, the door to the restaurant, open them all for her. Be sure she feels not only like a lady, but also like she’s special.

            Go for the wine. Relax, it’s only wine. Here’s a quick study on how to suggest wines:

• Red is typically for red meats and dark sauces.
• White is typically for white meat, like chicken or duck, and fish.
• White is served chilled, while red is served at room temperature.
• Wine older then two years has less sulfites in it, which means less chance for a headache. (Not the hangover head ache, just a head ache in general if your date is not used to wine.) So go for the older wine.
• If all else fails, ask the waiter what they suggest.

Remember, this is your night to stir up romance with your lady. Only the finest will do! So impress her, and take her somewhere special. It will be an evening neither one of you will forget!
